The Laney College Health Center hosted another workshop in their “Wellness Wednesday” series, that are held on Wednesdays at 12-1pm. These workshops are hosted by Indra Thadani, who is a Health Services Coordinator and College Nurse for Laney College. April 14’s workshop touched on improving your mindset for success, learning from mistakes, being flexible and getting inspired and surrounding yourself with positive people.

The first topic was learning from your mistakes. We all have moments where something doesn’t go our way or as we had planned. When a moment like that happens, it’s good to pause and ask yourself what is the lesson here, and if that doesn’t work for you, another option could be talking it out with a person who is understanding and will listen. Sometimes writing it down on paper or in a journal could be helpful.

When something doesn’t go the way I plan, I like to be alone and cool off on my own. If I’m up to it, I will gladly try to work out what went wrong that day and organize what I learned for another day. It’s an upsetting feeling at first, but it’s good to keep in mind that things happen for a reason. We all have different ways of approaching our mistakes and this small tip might be useful for you if this is a problem you have.

The next topic was flexibility. Not only does this have to do with your body, but it is also a reflection of how flexible you are with your mind. Rather than seeing things in a black and white light, open yourself up more, try being more balanced with family, work, relationships, etc. Make a conscious effort to be open-minded and expand your flexibility towards new things or the people you surround yourself with.

When you have a closed mind, then things tend to not work out well. It isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating, enjoying the little things in life; opening up to good energy and finding the right motivation.

From there, we talked about setting and having goals for ourselves that might be unreachable. We all have goals but sometimes they fall through the cracks, so rewarding yourself and building up your self esteem can be essential in motivating yourself to go after goals that seem out of reach. We all have an internal light and we don’t want that light to be dimmed or tarnished.

The discussion that ended us off was about surrounding ourselves with positive people. Even this can sometimes be a challenge. Especially in times like these, being and staying positive is still a current and constant struggle. Reaching out to people with a positive aura may still be a struggle, surrounding yourself with light and happy people will definitely put a change on things. Putting boundaries up with negative people or distancing yourself from them altogether can protect your individuality and personal energy, as you never know who could be hoping to bring it down.

All in all, this workshop really brings so much positivity and relaxation. The workshops are really helpful, useful and especially needed in times like this.
