Letter to the editor — A letter to Peralta Trustee Meredith Brown

I would like to sincerely thank you for the expert way you handled Student Trustee Jordan’s substitute motion at the Nov. 27 board meeting. I especially liked your suggestion to the Peralta Board of Trustees to engage in mediation in order to move forward and work together productively, and to table the motion to censure Trustee Nicky Gonzalez Yuen.

It was an elegant and progressive solution, and I understand it wasn’t easy. It was an extremely important step in the right direction.

I had nothing at all to do with the mediation proposal (as I’m sure you know), but was so impressed with Trustee Jordan’s suggestion and with your statement about the importance of listening to student voices. It was an important moment.

I truly would like to thank you for your role as the Chair of the meeting.

I would also like to let you know that I am very interested in developing a productive relationship with you and other Board members who put students first. Thank you also to Trustee Bonilla, Trustee Weinstein, Trustee Yuen, and of course, Trustee Jordan.

Working together, students, classified professionals, faculty, administrators and the Board of Trustees can create the Peralta Colleges our communities deserve.
