At the March 23rd Board of Trustees Meeting, Dr. Jannett Jackson was announced as the new Interim Chancellor for the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) to replace Dr. Carla Walter.
During the report on closed session, Board Vice-President, Nicky Gonzalez Yuen announced the unanimous 7-0 vote. “The Board voted to appoint Dr. Jannett Jackson as the Interim Chancellor, pending negotiations of the employment agreement on a motion by myself, seconded by trustee Withrow.” Gonzales Yuen said.
Jackson is no stranger to Peralta, having served as the College of Alameda’s vice president of instruction, interim president and president until 2013 when she was appointed chancellor of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. Jackson left College of Alameda after filling two years of a three year contract. Peralta’s then Chancellor Jose M. Ortiz said he was “sorry to see her go. She was doing a good job at College of Alameda.”
Jackson was Chancellor (retired) from Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Jul 2013-Sept. 2018 and that she obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin in Educational Administration.
It was unclear from the report whether Jackson would immediately replace Walter or wait until Walter is currently set to leave on April 15th, two months before the end of her contract. Walter issued her resignation on March 17, citing “personal reasons.”
