TOWER WATCH: Student assaulted on campus

    By Michelle Snider

A Laney student was assaulted on the way to his car on Tuesday evening, Sept. 4.

According to political science professor Scott Godfrey, his student was struck in the face before witnessing two men run away with the his book bag. (The student has agreed to tell his story to The Tower to help others avoid such attacks. His story will appear in the next Tower issue.)

Students can get assistance from the Laney Safety Aides, who will provide a safe escort to the parking lot or other locations near campus. Laney Safety Aides “help patrol, observe and report all suspicious activity on campus.”

Peralta Police Services can be reached at 510-465-3514 and 510-466-7236.

The Safety Aide office is located in the Student Center, room 411.

Escort services are available for students, staff and faculty Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You can reach the Safety Aides at 510-599-9411 and 510-464-3126 or email: [email protected]

    About the Contributor
In the fall of 2019, The Laney Tower rebranded as The Citizen and launched a new website. These stories were ported over from the old Laney Tower website, but byline metadata was lost in the port. However, many of these stories credit the authors in the text of the story. Some articles may also suffer from formatting issues. Future archival efforts may fix these issues.
